A Night At The 5th AACTA Awards

From the elegant red carpet to the glamorous ceremony and intimate afterparty – the 5th AACTA Awards at The Star in Sydney were extraordinary.

Last night, I was invited to this exclusive event celebrating the Australian film and television industry presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

Walking the red carpet surrounded by actors I’ve grown up watching was so surreal. It all started with being introduced to the legendary Kerri-Anne Kennerley after just arriving. This was then followed by a conversation with Love Child‘s Miranda Tapsell who is an absolute sweetheart (honestly, ‘sweetheart’ would be an understatement! She’s incredible). Celebrity after celebrity flooded the red carpet in their gorgeous frocks and suits. From the Home and Away cast to up-and-coming actors like Mad Max‘s Courtney Eaton and Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door‘s Joel Jackson and Ky Baldwin. Oh, and don’t forget the uber talented leading actor of Oddball … Oddball!

Before I knew it, it was time for the ceremony. With my golden ticket in hand, I walked up the escalator behind the fantastic cast of Wentworth, the lovable Bindi Irwin and Longford Lyell Award recipient, Cate Blanchett. With so much talent surrounding me, I was truly starstruck. I’m not going to lie, I felt like a celebrity and it was amazing.

Even though the ceremony was telecast on Channel Seven, it was incredible being able to witness the event firsthand. With performances by Birds of Tokyo and 2015 X Factor winner Cyrus Villanueva, the night was absolutely beautiful. It was set up so perfectly and was not boring or long whatsoever. However, my two favourite moments of the night were Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett‘s acceptance speeches.

But, it didn’t end there! The spectacular AACTAs afterparty followed and it was amazing! I was lucky enough to network with so many people within the industry that I came out of the venue with a wealth of knowledge. It was also so incredible getting to meet the stars of my favourite television shows. It’s experiences like these that I truly cherish. Rather than solely taking a picture with them, I could talk freely to them for as long as I desired. They were all so genuine and down-to-earth! It was just like talking to a friend.

After a a few hours of mingling, the night came to an end. I am still so appreciative that I got the opportunity to attend this prestigious event and meet so many extraordinary people.

Bring on next year!
